Johnny Depp has been named the most overpaid actor of 2015 and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Johnny Depp may be earning award nominations for Black Mass, but there’s one title he’s probably not excited to receive. Johnny Depp may have previously been riding high playing “Captain Jack Sparrow” in the last four Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but his recent crop of box office duds have earned him the title of “Most Overpaid Actor of 2015” from Forbes Magazine. According to the magazine, films like Mortdecai and Transcendence earned so little that the star’s films returned only $1.20 for every dollar he was paid. While his latest film, Black Mass, was not included in the figures, Forbes points out its low box office won’t help his future ranking despite the fact that he has two big sequels on the horizon; Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Taking the number two spot on the list was Denzel Washington who earned around $6.50 per every dollar he was paid followed closely be Will Ferrell who earned around $6.80 for every dollar thanks to his last three starring roles; Get Hard, Anchorman 2 and The Campaign. We should point out that Forbes did not include animated features, so his appearance in The Lego Movie was not included. Number four on the list was Liam Neeson who earned around $7.20 for every dollar spent. Despite the success of Taken 3, films like Run All Night and A Walk Among the Tombstones failed to earn back their production budgets in their domestic runs. Wrapping up the top five was Will Smith, who earned around $8.60 for every dollar he was paid thanks to less than stellar box office for this year’s Focus. Adam Sandler, who held the top spot for the past two years, was not eligible this year considering his sole 2015 theatrical release, Pixels, was released before the magazine’s June 2015 cutoff, but expect to see him return to the rankings next year. As for the actor who got the best bang for the buck? It’s Chris Evans whose last three films have made an average $181.80 for every dollar he was paid.
