“Stage 4 breast cancer” is a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear. For Diane Blais, who has a family history of breast cancer, her metastatic breast cancer diagnosis came even though she had been vigilant about receiving regular mammograms.
Undetermined to let cancer defeat her positive spirit and determination to overcome, Blais received treatment at UNC REX Cancer Care in Wake County and UNC Cancer Care in Chapel Hill. For years, she has undergone radiation and chemotherapy and is still participating in a cutting-edge clinical trial, which has slowed the growth of her tumor.
Her story is one of staying positive in the face of great hardship and finding support through family, friends, doctors and her two affectionate and loyal dogs.
UNC Health Care offers mammography screenings and comprehensive breast services at several locations across the Triangle. Learn more about our programs at the UNC REX Comprehensive Breast Care Program in Wake County and the UNC Breast Center in Chapel Hill.
