This lecture, in brief, attempts to trace the evolution of planning in India, by providing a historical context and highlighting the need for planning in India. Various plan- models, and determinants of planning are explored.
An objective analysis gives students an understanding of the context that was unique to that of India, and how a newly independent country such as India had to evolve a plan that would suit her requirements, and meet the needs and aspirations of her people.
